I have been asked many times how to select a reputable breeder and a kitten therefore I have decided to share
this information with all those searching for their new family friend.
Deal only with Registered breeders
You ‘get what you pay for’, if it sounds cheap…..there’s a reason!
Ask to see both parents + their Pedigree’s, NOT photocopies [ to ensure you are
purchasing a Pedigree animal, there are a lot of X breeds being
sold as Pedigree]
Do you get a full Pedigree for your kitten, if not why not? All kittens should be registered and you are ENTITLED to a pedigree, some breeders tell you the kitten is cheaper without a pedigree……a few $$ saved on the purchase…does it guarantee a pedigree kitten, I don’t think so.
If you are not purchasing from a registered breeder are you encouraging
'Pet farm' breeding…those who have no respect for the Queen and keep her in a small enclosure outside as a breeding machine, just like chickens at an egg farm!!
Has your kitten been desexed and received at least one vaccination, if not why?
Is your kitten well socialized? Sit on the floor with the kittens and see if they gravitate to you, kittens are curious and after the initial caution they should come and play around you / with you.
The kitten should be a MINIMUM of 10 weeks of age before leaving for its new home when it is mature enough to handle the stress of a new environment.
Is your breeder friendly, informative and willing to answer all your questions honestly?
Will the breeder offer you ‘ongoing’ support when the kitten leaves for their new home?
Does the breeder have ‘testimonials’ from previous purchasers [Genuine purchasers], that you can contact.
Go with your ‘Gut Feeling’.
